Volunteers & Internships

- Join The Team! Help Contribute to the clay community

We are seeking volunteers and interns to assist in publicizing and organizing National Clay Week (NCW) 2018, October 8-14. Positions are unpaid, but offer a value opportunity to demonstrate responsibility, make connections in the national and international ceramics community, and add to resumes and portfolios. The time requirement for each position will vary, but most will require ten hours each week on average, with a higher level of responsibility in the internships. These volunteer and intern positions are for one year, beginning in May and ending the following May. (We can be flexible with these start and ending dates within reason.)

Eligibility: Applicants for both types of position need to be dependable, innovative, and exercise time management to meet planning schedules and deadlines.  Editing and writing skills, and English language proficiency are preferred. Applicants should have experience and an interest related to ceramics. There is no age requirement or specific education requirement for volunteer or internship positions. International applicants are welcome. Anyone with interest and desire to contribute is eligible to apply.

Volunteer Position Descriptions: There are two main categories of volunteer positions: Community Development and Outreach.  The concept development volunteers help us find organizations to contact for participating in NCW, while the Outreach Volunteers work with us to contact the organizations found by the Community Development Volunteers.

Community Development Volunteer Positions:

  • K-12 Community Development will research K-12 (schools) in every state /country, and develop a database of school names and contact info using Excel, with tabs for each state/country.  

 

  • Clay Club Community Development will research college clay clubs in every state/country, and develop a database of club names and contact info using Excel, with tabs for each state/country.

 

  • Clay Business Community Development will research clay businesses in every state/country, and develop a database of businesses and contact info using Excel, with tabs for each state/country.

 

  • Art Center Community Development will research art centers in every state/country, and develop a database of the centers and contact info using Excel, with tabs for each state/country.

 

Outreach:

  • K-12 Outreach Coordinator will contact teachers in their assigned area, log all communication with the teachers in the Excel file, and forward informational packets to get them involved.  

 

  • Clay Club Outreach Coordinator will contact clay clubs in their assigned area, log all communication with the teachers in the Excel file, and forward informational packets to get them involved.  

 

  • Clay Business Outreach Coordinator will contact businesses in their assigned area, log all communication with the teachers in the Excel file, and forward informational packets to get them involved

 

  • Art Center Outreach Coordinator will contact arts centers in their assigned area, log all communication with the centers in the Excel file, and forward informational packets to get them involved.  

​Intern Position are more involved and care more responsibility. 

Graphics Intern will assist in NCW’s branding effort, by designing posters, flyers, books, brochures, social media ads, PDFs, and other advertising products. Will work closely with the directors and, Social Media Intern, and Web Intern.

Web Intern will assist in updating the NCW 2018 website using Wix Platform, coordinate information for incorporation in the website, help us find related content to highlight, manage links/info on affiliate websites and platforms, and perform occasional editing of web text. Will work closely with the directors and Graphics Intern.

Social Media Intern will post all social media materials, help us find related content to highlight, and help streamline our platforms- Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube; and respond to messages/comments posted on NCW 2018’s page/site on these platforms. Will work closely with directors, Graphics Intern and Social Media Coordinator.

Copywriter Intern will assist in the design and printing of NCW 2018’s newsletters, press releases, and possible articles, to include drafting, editing, and proofing of written materials. Will work closely with the directors, Graphics Intern, Social Media Coordinator.

Open Studio Communications Intern will coordinate with the Open Studio Manager, relay approved press releases to regional weekend papers, and regional tourism associates in support of the open studio activities for NCW 2018. Will work closely with the directors, and Open Studio Coordinator.

Communication’s Support Intern(s) will send out information packets, press material, and help us to best respond to questions from people expressing interest in participating or supporting NCW 2018. Will work closely with the directors, and Open Studio Coordinator.

How to Apply:

We strive to identify opportunities for high-level interaction for our interns with in the ceramics community.

 

NCW will have a booth at NCECA 2018 in Pittsburgh, from 14-19 March. Stephen and Lindsay are happy to meet and answer any additional questions.  Applications are due by June 1st.  In all cases, candidates who are under serious consideration for the positions will be notified; all applicants will be notified with acceptance or regrets once the decisions have been made.
